Founded in 1972 in an attempt to create a theater close to the working class, La Villarroel has always distinguished itself by its vitality and its social commitment.
Since its creation, more than two hundred and fifty shows have been premiered, the vast majority in Catalan and Catalan authors, twenty-one works of foreign production and more than fifty cançó recitals.
Under the management of the Grup Focus, La Villarroel has become a window for contemporary dramaturgy, the theater of living author, and especially, Catalan authorship.
